Purchasing Manager (Glass Plant)
Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing procurement activities at the glass production plant. The role ensures cost-effective, timely, and high- quality supply of raw materials, spare parts, technical services, and other goods and services required for plant operations. The position plays a key role in building strong supplier relationships, ensuring compliance with corporate
procurement policies, and contributing to operational efficiency and cost optimization.
- Lead the plant procurement function, ensuring uninterrupted supply of raw materials (cullet, sand, soda ash, chemicals), packaging materials, energy, spare parts, and services needed for glass production.
- Supervise and guide plant buyers, allocate workload, and monitor performance.
- Coordinate procurement strategy with Direct Manager and Group Procurement to align with budgets, sourcing policies, and sustainability objectives.
- Approve purchase requisitions and purchase orders within delegated authority.
- Provide regular updates to management on supply risks, procurement KPIs, and savings initiatives.
- Review material requirements (Raw materials, energy) from production planning.
- Ensure supply security by strategic & operational contribution.
- Run savings and other projects in the area of resonsibility.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, warehouse, and quality teams to maximize service & quality level.
- Work closely with Group Procurement to maximize synergies.
- Escalate critical shortages and coordinate fast-track solutions (emergency sourcing, stock transfer from other plants, alternative supplier activation).
- Ensure procurement activities follow Group Procurement Policy, legal regulations, and safety standards.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits and traceability (contracts, certificates, delivery notes).
- Report on procurement performance: cost savings, supplier OTIF (On Time In Full), stock coverage etc.
- University degree in Supply Chain, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, ideally in the industrial or manufacturing sector.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and supplier management skills.
- Solid understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and supply market dynamics.
- Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred), MS Excel.
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
